Tania Tonkin, financial planner at dmca Advisory, says people need to start planning earlier to make sure they accumulate enough financial assets – both inside and outside of superannuation – that they can draw on if they want retire earlier than age 67.
According to dmca director Tania Tonkin, the new year is presenting ample opportunity for smaller accounting and business advisory firms to offer greater incentives that go beyond the financials.
Senior accountant Kate Bruce from dmca advisory said people could not sell assets such as property and shares without being monitored.
“It is becoming easier for the ATO to review information in a tax return,” she said.
Chartered accountant Ricardo Neves from financial services firm dmca advisory says people may not have asked their employer, while others may feel the financial gain is not big enough to be worthwhile.
“However, when structured correctly, or if a number of strategies are implemented, the benefits can increase substantially,” he says.
Tonkin explains lease payments for fitouts are fully tax deductible, so the tax deduction each year equals total lease payments made. “GST is included in the lease payments and can be claimed back against GST payable by the business. It’s also worth noting interest rates are currently quite low and finance providers are typically willing to negotiate this point.”
