AUSkey to phase out in 2020
Things change quickly in the IT world. AUSkey, the online security system introduced less than 10 years ago for business reporting when accessing multiple government services, is to be phased out by March 2020 in favour of an updated digital ID system.
AUSkey was the system used to access the ATO Business Portal, or your Tax Agent Portal. The myGovID system will replace AUSkey technology.
myGovID is not the same as the myGov website. The myGovID is used to prove who you are when using online government services, similar to a bank hardware authenticator. Currently under the public beta version you can access the following government services with myGovID:
- ATO Business Portal
- ATO Access Manager
- Australian Business Register (ABR)
Shortly you will also be able to access the ATO Online Services for Agents and more services will be added in the future.
If you use AUSkey, you will need to move to the myGovID system. It is a very secure proof of identity app and it will prove who you are when accessing government services. You can then use your myGovID for both personal and business matters.
In preparation for this change, you will need to check that your ABN details are up to date. If you have any concerns or need any assistance, please contact us on 8272 5620.
