5 Minutes with Angela White

Tell us about what you do at dmca and what you like most about it?

My role as Client Service Officer is to support the Financial Advisers in delivering and implementing financial advice for our clients as well as support the whole dmca team when required. What I like most about the role is the variety and liaising with the many clients we have.  Every time I implement advice, I am building on our client relationship and we have such wonderful clients who appreciate the efforts myself and our team go to for them. It really feels good to see our clients reach their desired goals and the positive outcome it has on them as well as us.

How does your day usually start?

Taking my two dogs for a morning walk before heading to work. Once I arrive early at work, I need to have that good morning coffee from the café next door and quick read of the Advertiser as I like to read what is happening locally and internationally.

I am most grateful for…?

I am most grateful for the wonderful family I was born into.  My parents had a farm with orchards and olive groves and many different kinds of animal and although it was very hard at times especially through the summer months, it was always enjoyable to come home to.  I believe they were very gifted people and anything they put their minds and hands to they did well.  My parents were very humble, firm and hardworking people who never took anything or anyone for granted and were always there for us children giving us advice.   As my siblings and I accomplished things throughout our lives, our parents and grandparents were always pleased and happy to give us recognition when due.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given (or number one myth most people believe) about money and finance?

While growing up, my parents would always say don’t just think for today but plan for tomorrow.  Never use all your pay for living now but instead get used to apportioning your wage each pay period to cover expenses and general living and the rest bank in an interest bearing account to save and accumulate, then when the funds reach a sizeable amount, consider investing in other investments and real estate.  When you start young the investments will grow over the years and you will have more flexibility with what you can do.  I managed to pay off both home mortgages very quickly around 11years for each one.  I only had mortgages and never needed a personal loan as I had my own savings plus a debit card with a small credit facility and this worked well for me over the decades.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

A very long time ago, I was crowned Australia Day Queen of the Year for our district council. Thank God it was well before Google so there are no photos other than a few my family have.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

A little sleep in on the weekends if I can and a walk or visit to a local café with my husband and our two dogs Chase and Bentley.  Sometimes I spend time in the Botanic Gardens as I love to be surrounded by plants as it makes me feel so relaxed and the air amongst the plants is so clean and fresh. Plants are a must in every room at home and around me on my desk at work.

What’s the one thing you can’t go without (and why)?

A good cup of coffee in the morning and a quality 30min to myself to relax and enjoy alone to prepare me for the day.

Where are we likely to find you outside of work?

Enjoying my garden with my husband and a glass of wine.
