5 minutes with… Tania, dmca Director

Learn a little bit more about Tania Tonkin, dmca Director, Financial Adviser and Chartered Accountant. Since joining dmca in 2007, Tania became a Director in 2009, and has now been part of our dmca family for an incredible 18 years!

Tell us about what you do at dmca and your favourite thing about it.

As a Director of dmca, part of my role includes managing our business, however a large part involves supporting our clients, providing them with ongoing business and financial advice.  I do enjoy all parts of my role, including the challenges that come with running a business, however my favourite thing would have to be working closely with our clients and providing solutions to help them achieve their goals which is very rewarding.

What are you most grateful for?

Many of our clients I have worked with since I first started with dmca more than 18 years ago, so I greatly value the strong relationships that we have built, as well as welcoming new clients to our business.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given about money and finance?

The “Rule of 72” and investing for the long term, for example if you can earn on average 6% per annum on your money invested, you should double your money in 12 years (i.e. 72 / 6).  Alternatively, if you take a little more risk and earn 8% per annum, your money should double in 9 years.  It is a good way to focus on longer term goals like saving for retirement, without being distracted by short term fluctuations.

What do you do outside work to unwind?

I enjoy being outdoors, which includes trail riding on my e-mountain bike, kayaking, hiking, and getting stuck into small renovation projects at home.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

That I do love a bit of adventure… 4 years ago I completed my advanced open water course in scuba diving which took me way outside of my comfort zone, however it has opened up a whole new world of opportunities, the highlight being a 2 week diving trip to Palau last year.

What’s the one thing you can’t do without (and why)?

I can’t do without my family and friends, they are a big part of my life and have supported me throughout.  From a work perspective, I can’t do without my wonderful team, I wouldn’t be able to deliver the service to our clients without them.
